Position duration: This position is a 100% time appointment for one year from the start date with the possibility of reappointment, contingent upon performance and funding.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Environmental Markets Lab (emLab) is an interdisciplinary team of scientists based at UC Santa Barbara that conducts cutting-edge, data-driven research on the power, limitations, and design of market-based approaches to tackle the world's most pressing environmental problems. In collaboration with implementing partners, emLab aims to better align environmental objectives and economic incentives in support of sustainable livelihoods and a resilient planet. emLab generates timely insights into effective and equitable solutions for Climate & Energy, Land & Freshwater, Ocean & Fisheries, and People & Poverty. emLab is seeking a Development Coordinator with excellent writing and copy-editing skills who will work closely with emLab's Executive Director, eleven Principal Investigators, and research staff to support and advance emLab's mission and impact.

The Development Coordinator will support the development and execution of emLab's fundraising strategy, including tracking emLab's fundraising pipeline, identifying new funding partners and prospects, linking new project ideas with potential partners and funders, liaising with potential partners/funders and principal investigators, and grant reporting. They will be responsible for overseeing the development and submission of project proposals to secure funds for emLab research projects and initiatives, a process which involves writing proposal content, managing document review and proposal contributions from project leadership and staff, setting and holding teams accountable to deadlines, developing project budgets, and managing contracts and grants with the University and external partners. This individual will also be expected to write and edit diverse communications products, including newsletter and website content that highlight key emLab research findings and their real-world applications.

We are seeking a highly-motivated, detail-oriented team player who is able to juggle many responsibilities to fill this exciting and dynamic role. We are looking for a passionate Development Coordinator who can work with our team to bring our research to life and support the realization of emLab's mission and values. The successful candidate will have strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills to work across emLab project teams to turn novel ideas into compelling project proposals and communicate research findings to diverse audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resource economics, economics, environmental communications, biology, public policy, journalism, or a related field;

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
2+ years of experience developing written materials and/or managing contract and grant processes supporting fundraising, communications, project management and/or environmental or economic research operations.

Preferred qualifications
Master's degree in environmental science and management, natural resource economics, economics, environmental communications, biology, public policy, journalism, or a related field;
Exceptional writing skills, including experience writing fundraising and communication materials such as project scopes of work, grant proposals and reports, website content, blog posts, and press releases;
Experience documenting and synthesizing information gathered from meetings and brainstorming sessions, as well as existing written materials, to develop clear and cohesive fundraising and communications products for diverse audiences (e.g., philanthropic, NGO, government, and Universities);
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including a proven ability to establish rapport with diverse internal and external colleagues and to facilitate meetings and speak to groups when needed;
Demonstrated ability to manage details, set and track deadlines for themselves and others, and work in a collaborative, welcoming manner;
Experience developing project budgets for research or other programmatic activities;
Ability to handle a diverse portfolio of projects simultaneously with speed, accuracy, and courtesy, while exhibiting exceptional levels of insightful planning;
Ability to quickly and effectively adapt to the dynamic fundraising landscape;
Excellent computer skills, including fluency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Docs, Gmail, and Google Calendar.
