SHORT-TERM EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY - TEMPORARY BENEFITS SPECIALIST

We have a need for a temporary benefits specialist to work in our Human Resources department, serving the West Valley-Mission Community College District. This short-term employment opportunity would begin on, or about, April 20, 2020, and would extend through at least September 30, 2020, on a full-time hourly basis.

The Temporary Benefits Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating employee benefits with minimal supervision and direction. The Temporary Benefits Specialist reports to the Human Resources Supervisor.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities are typical but not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the administration, implementation and maintenance of the District's health and welfare programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, employee assistance programs, COBRA and retiree benefits.
  • Originate policies, procedures, forms and instruction manuals or other written materials necessary to support program implementation and function.
  • Act as primary contact for all District employees and retirees regarding medical benefits.
  • Manage communication and education programs to keep all employees well-informed of plan contents, options and changes, including retirees.
  • Plan and implement open enrollment.
  • Ensure customer questions are answered and issues resolved in a timely manner; directly participate in resolution of issues.

    EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

    Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of health and welfare programs, including a variety of options and types.
  • Current state legislation affecting District health and welfare programs including applicable sections of California Education Code and Title 5.

    Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex data analysis.
  • Successful short- and long-term planning skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills including drafting of concise contract language.
  • Proficiency in use of a variety of computer software applications to enter, modify, format and retrieve data (WVMCCD uses Smartben and Banner).
  • Compose and prepare written materials including graphs and other presentation tools.

    Education and Experience:
    1. Bachelor's degree preferred.
    2. Minimum of 3 years of experience working with employee health and welfare programs.
    3. Ability to maintain effective working relationships

    Compensation
    $6,843-$8,606 monthly, commensurate with experience (paid on an hourly basis)
